Why is my fur hat not exactly the same color shade as on the i-fur Web site?

Many of our products are made from WILD Canadian fur. Just as few people are exactly alike, wild animals vary greatly in their fur color, densisty etc. When we use dyed or ranch-raised furs, the color shades are more consistent — although not all pelts absorb dye in the same way.

We pick out the nicest quality pelts we can find for our products, but we cannot promise what exactly the color tone will be for your individual order. It may appear darker or lighter than what you see on the Web site. When making a hat, blanket, or coat we are very careful to match the furs as closely as possible. Expert matching is part of what distinquishes a fine fur garment.

The pictures on our Web site are from items we made over the past few years. One year our mink, for example, may be a lighter brown than in another year. Later in the season, we may get some darker ones.

Fur is not like mass-produced plastic or paint that you can get in the same color every time. Fur's variations and uniqueness are part of what make it so special.

For all our products, we hand-select, grade and match furs with great care to ensure that you receive an absolutely top-quality garment. You may find cheaper elsewhere ... but you won't find better.

What's the best way to care for a fur hat or coat?

To fluff up your hat – when you first take it out of the box, or anytime it needs fluffing — shake it briskly. Hold the sides of the hat and shake hands rapidly back and forth, in an alternate fashion. Watch how it’s done, in this video!

To retain the fur’s sheen during the wearing season, or if the garment gets soiled, gently brush the fur (in the direction of the grain) with a very soft, natural-bristle hairbrush once or twice. (Some shedding may occur). NEVER brush when wet.

If your hat or coat gets wet, let it dry at room temperature. Never blow-dry it, put it on a radiator or other heat source, or place it directly in the sun, as this could damage the fur and will certainly dry out the skin.

NEVER, wash a fur hat yourself. NEVER put it in the washing machine or dryer.

If your hat needs a thorough cleaning or repair, take it to a furrier or recognized fur specialist.

NEVER leave your hat next to a window. Long exposure to sunlight can cause fading of the natural or dyed colors, and dry out the fur leather.

NEVER allow jewelry or fragrances in contact with your fur. Jewelry can catch and tear the fur, fragrance chemicals can cause stains.

NEVER store any fur item in a plastic bag. Fur needs to breathe.

Store your hat or other fur garment in a cool, dark and airy space. You can use the shipping box and tissue (to preserve the hat’s shape and prevent it from being crushed).
Keep your fur coats in cold storage during the summer. Contact your local furrier or fur storage company in the spring to make arrangement for an annual cleaning and summer storage.

Keep moths and moth larvae (and mice, too!) away from your fur. Pack your hat in the i-fur shipping box and store the box in a cedar closet. Or, toss a few mothballs into the closet or drawer where you store the box. NEVER put mothballs directly in contact with the hat. They could stain the fur, and you will certainly smell like mothballs - no way to impress!

Remember: Don’t use your fur hat to play fetch with the dog, don't let the cat sleep on it, and try not to lose it out your car window at 90 miles an hour!
